On Friday, I headed across the country for the Lush Carlisle bloggers event to check out all the new Easter goodies. The lovely girls even gave us a chance to make a couple of our own products too!
Humpty Dumpty, £6.95
Humpty Dumpty is one of the new bath bombs added to the collection this year. Similar to Which Came First?, Humpty Dumpty can be split into a maximum of three baths, or you could just use the whole thing in one. When it’s cracked open, it reveals a tiny little egg which I think would be a perfect match to go with one of the bubble bars in the collection. The bath bomb contains bergamot and Brazilian orange oil which is bound to crack a smile out of you when you’re feeling down!
Ultraviolet Bubble Bar, £4.25
Next up is a returning product from last year and my personal fave; the Ultraviolet Bubble Bar. Chelsea, one of the lovely girls explaining and showcasing us the products, told us that Ultraviolet is meant to represent the dark side of the rainbow. This sweet floral treat is packed full of Violet and Jasmine Absolute, Rosewood Oil and Ylang Ylang Oil but in simple terms the scent is extremely similar to Parma Violet sweets.
Bunch of Carrots, £6.25
A Bunch of Carrots is back but with a little twist. The colours of the carrots are distinctively different from last year but I think that’s why I personally love them. You could use them all together or separate from each other. Each carrot can be used up to five times so you are essentially getting nearly 15 baths out of them which is insane! The ingredients include Buchu, Lemon and Grapefruit Oils as well as Cream of Tartar which helps to soften the skin. I think without this Easter staple, life at Lush just wouldn’t be the same.
Fluffy Egg, £2.95
Golden Egg, £3.95
Fluffy Egg and Golden Egg are another of Lush’s Easter classics. Fluffy Egg has the irresistible scent of Snow Fairy from the Christmas collection which is perfect for me because both Magic Wand and Candy Mountain have ran out until later this year. The candy floss scent lingers across your body for the following 24hrs and is definitely one of my favourite scents! Whereas Golden Egg is there to add some sparkle to your day. Packed with cocoa butter and olive oil for the soft and moisturising effects and bergamot and wild orange oils to uplift your mood, it’s bound to make your day eggcellent!
Which Came First? Bath Bomb, £6.95
Last but not least is Which Came First?, previously known as Immaculate Eggception last year. As always it can be cracked open for you to use in three separate baths or you can be greedy and use the whole entire egg. This year it reveals an adorable chick inside which I think is so cute! Similar to other products in the collection, it’s packed full of Lemon and Grapefruit Oils to uplift your mood and Vanilla Absolute for that added extra sweetness. I loved seeing the colours blend together during the demo however the final shade that the bath may turn has made me want to use the little chick separate from the egg itself as it’s similar to the Experimenter.
After watching all the demos and listening to the lovely girls enthusiastically talk about all the new additions it was time to start making our own products and get our hands dirty. First on the list was Creamy Candy Bubble Bar which is one of my favourites. Can any Lush fans guess why? Yes, it smells like Snow Fairy goodness! We were given quite a lot of product to play with so I halved mine and attempted to make a replica of the product itself and a Fluffy Egg’ version. I would love to know what you think though!
We also made Angels On Bare Skin which is one of my favourite cleansers. If you have dry and sensitive skin then this is the one for you because it has lavender oil and rose absolute that is brilliant for calming the skin, kaolin to absorb the grease and dirt and ground almonds that turn into almond milk when mixed to a paste. This helps to tone and brighten the skin. I have made this product previously so if your interested in how to make the product itself you can read more in-depth information here.
Before we left there was a chance to get a lovely hand massage with Angels on Bare Skin and Dream Cream which are my ultimate faves when my eczema flares up on my hands. Honestly, this combination of products is brilliant and I would really recommend you trying them out if you have dry skin too!
To summarise, I am so happy that we travelled across the country. I have met some amazing girls who work at the Carlisle store as well as having a lovely time. The thing that I am most proud of though is combating that anxiety and doing something out of my comfort zone!
Have you been to any Lush events before? Let me know what your favourite Easter product is this year!

Christmas Day is one of the best days of year! That’s a fact. It’s full of unique moments cherished by each individual, family and friend. Some people go to their local pub for Christmas dinner, some spend it with many family members and others pretend the day doesn’t even exist, so I thought I would share my Christmas traditions.
Confession: I have been awake since 5.30am. However, this is not for tearing off the Christmas paper in the quickest time possible; it’s to say good morning to my furry little friends, Millie and Charlie. Although I don’t do mornings well, these two brighten up my day and I can’t wait for them to open a selection of presents on their first Christmas later today. Now that I am 22 years old, I do miss the excitement of running downstairs waking everyone up and receiving presents from Santa. I’m sure everyone does but it’s nice to just have a chilled morning and enjoy the little moments.
Usually, I would see my sister and brother-in-law for today’s festive celebrations but this year things are a little bit different. My nephew has just been born so they are staying put while I get the chance to see my Dad this morning, spend some quality family time round at my Aunt’s house opening Christmas presents and eating a delicious Christmas dinner this afternoon. Just a little side note: my nephew, Noel Kaden, is a healthy 7lb 5oz and is currently getting used to being in the real world with my sister, brother-in-law and Frank, the sausage dog. I’m really looking forward to seeing them soon but for now I’m off to spend today with loved ones and doing something different to what usually happens. I just wanted to pop by and wish you all a massive Merry Christmas before all the festive goodness begins!
I hope you have a wonderful day! What’s your favourite part of Christmas Day? Let me know in the comments!

If you have read my blog for a while then you should already know that I get pretty bad eczema on my skin and I am willing to try absolutely anything to clear it up or at least make it look slightly better. I swear by Dream Cream because it is my ultimate saviour during flare-ups, however, I have recently discovered some alternatives such as Bria Organics Skin Cream*.
The Bria Organics Relief Repair Replenish Skin Cream is a vegan alternative to Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream that soothes, repairs and moisturises dry and sore skin. The ingredients include: Borage Oil and Rosehip to replenish and repair the skin, Chickweed to help cool and soothe and Shea Butter to protect the skin. After using it for over a month now, I have fallen in love with the product! The product doesn’t contain any water so the cream is extremely concentrated and personally, I think that is why it works. It feels as though my skin is moisturised after applying and my eczema isn’t as bad as what it usually is during the colder months. Don’t get me wrong, I will still purchase Dream Cream but this is a great cruelty free alternative which I think is going to become my staple.
Another reason why I love this product is because a little goes a long way. You don’t need a lot of the product for it work on the skin which I think is amazing. As previously stated, I have used it for a month and still have nearly half the jar left. Personally I think the scent is a lot nicer than Dream Cream as it reminds me of playing with Play-Doh in nursery. I like how the product is multi-functional although I haven’t tried it as a lip balm yet.
Have you tried Bria Organics yet? What’s your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!

*I was contacted by the team at Bria Organics to review the Skin Cream however this does not affect my thoughts of the product or the brand themselves.
In true British weather, it rained on the evening I planned to head to Durham Lumiere. Not just a spot of rain but full on torrential rain! However, the weather was not going to stop me from taking photos of the event. For those who don’t know what the Durham Lumiere is; it’s the largest light festival in the UK. This year many international artists shared their vision for how light can change the world by illuminating the beautiful city of Durham in colourful light constellations. I thought I could share with you some of the photos from my iPhone while I was there.
The fogscape was actually the last I saw in the Lumiere Festival as it was down at the bottom of the Cathedral. Japanese artist, Fujiko Nakaya was the first to use fog as a sculptural medium, using it for the transmission of light and shadow. It looked really spooky and reminded me of the Harry Potter films.
The Garden of Light was beautiful and reminded me of walking into Alice In Wonderland with lots of colourful light sculptures. It was created by two technicians from France, François Fouilhé and Jean-Baptiste Laude, who are part of the TILT collective. It aims to give prominence to light art by encouraging the view from a new perspective. The sculpture used recycled materials along with high technical production.
The next sculpture I saw has definitely got to be my favourite from the night. The Litre of Light is made using thousands of plastic bottles. Mick Stephenson who built the sculpture has a track record of turning rubbish into beautiful illuminated art. There was a stand where you could write your own message and they would be placed in the sculpture and then cherished by Durham Cathedral after the festival was over.
Due to the rain, the Lumineoles weren’t as attractive as described by others. This was because it was so wet to be flown against the wind like they should have been. They were lit by LED lights and kept changing colours. At first I thought it was a whale but they are imaginary birds.
The World Machine was lighting up the Cathedral as you walked inside. The amazing art piece was a collaboration between Ross Ashton, cosmologists and historians at Durham University including Professor Carlos Frenk, sound designer John del’Nero and composer Isobel Waller-Bridge. It charted the ideas behind the origin of the Universe via a projection onto the Cathedral. During the intervals of each shows, the Cathedral was lit up in the colours of the French flag to show Paris that they have our support which I thought was such a lovely idea.
Rainbow River splits light through a perspex structure. It symbolises the history of research into light and its endless possibilities.
Finally, the Complex Meshes was projected onto the ceiling of the Cathedral. The ‘meshes’ were of various colourful shapes that overlapped, transformed and evolved into new patterns. I loved it! It just looked so magical. It was produced in response to the design of the Cathedral’s vault which signified the beginning of Gothic style architecture.
Despite the rain, I loved the Durham Lumiere Festival and can’t wait to return in two years time.
Did you go to the Durham Lumiere? What did you think?

Are we really growing up in a world evolving around technology and more importantly, social media?! I believe we are. But should it revolve around technology and social media?
Many people these days love the internet. I know I am one of those people. The first thing I do when I wake up is check the likes of Twitter, Instagram and my emails before I look out the window. A significant event happens in my life and I immediately want to grab my phone and capture it. Have you ever thought to just take in the moment for what it is? By that I mean using your own eyes instead of looking through a viewfinder whether that be on your phone or camera. As a society, we have taught ourselves this behaviour from following what everyone else does. A friend of mine showed me a video from The IT Crowd which I thought was quite interesting and explains exactly how one mention can attract you to following the trend.
Just think of the trending topics on Twitter and Facebook. Thousands of people keep updated through the trending topics across social media platforms. What about how the social networks grew the active followers base? This was done by word of mouth between friends, family and colleagues. So what would life really be like without the internet. We could have an actual conversation with real people around us. You never know, we may even be able to relax without being disturbed by tweets and other notifications. The other week I found myself getting distracted by the internet, maybe this was due to a five month break from University but I switched my phone to night mode and it was the best thing I have ever done! I could finally switch off from everything but more importantly I have control on when to talk on social media.
“The first tweet was sent on March 21, 2006 by Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter. It took over three years, until the end of May 2009, to reach the billionth tweet. Today, it takes less than two days for one billion tweets to be sent.” – Internet Live Stats
One of the topics I explored at University is UGC (User-Generated Content) and whether Journalism is dead. I came to the conclusion that it isn’t dead at all but Journalists must adapt to the world around them. They are using social media to their advantage, to assist in gathering information and writing their stories but what would it be like if no one captured a significant event and it was up to the Journalist to find the story themselves. Essentially, it would be giving them their old job back and not having to rely on social media. It’s never going to be dead because people are always going to have the need for news.
Does that mean that a Journalist is just going to have to sit behind a computer browsing the social networking sites to gather news stories? No, it doesn’t mean that but how many times is a Journalist in the right place at the right time with a camera crew to capture breaking news. Then think how many times is there a random person with a smartphone present in order to capture what’s happening and publish it to social media. For example, information about the Boston bombings were speculated across social media platforms via smartphones before Journalists could get down to report on it. This provides an opportunity for society to be aware of what was going on without the need of a Journalist to be involved. There’s no competition between the journalist and social media, it’s just part of their job just like interviewing sources and communicating with PR’s is essential to their career too.
What I am trying to say is that the internet is an overwhelming place and I think it’s important that we all have a break from time to time. Of course, I love the internet. I think everyone does for different reasons but I don’t want to feel so wrapped up in it any more. Yes, I may have missed out on capturing some moments in my life but I will still remember them. They just won’t be shared on the internet with the rest of the world. Your emails and notifications will always be there for you at the end of the day but a possible life changing conversation with someone may not be. I don’t know about anyone else but I miss the days where my life didn’t revolve around phones, laptops and social media.
What are your thoughts? Do you think it’s important to have a break from the internet now and again? Let me know what you think.
