The New Look Charity Ball Event

The New Look Charity Ball Event

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past five months, you will probably know that I work for New Look. It’s just as a Sales Advisor but to me it is so much more than that. Not only has it given me a routine again but it consistently fills me with confidence, joy and pleasure. Is there really any feeling that’s better than enjoying your alarm to get you up for work? I’ve made friends not only from my current store but the Shrewsbury store that I started in which I still keep in touch with to this day. Anyway, I’m rambling…I am not really here to talk about my job but more of the charity ball that was hosted at the weekend.

As someone who struggles with body confidence, I had tried on so many dresses because it felt like that kind of night but in the end I went for a culotte jumpsuit from New Look. I felt so confident in it although it was something very unlike me. This weekend I have planned to wear it with some white sandals and a denim jacket if the weather is still lovely.

The night was to raise as much money for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity but it was such a good night. There was an awards ceremony, drinks, a raffle and the chance to socialise with other stores in the region. Our store was lucky enough to win a total of three awards: Lindsay won Sales Advisor of the Year, Ashleigh won VM Star of the Year and Jenny won Best Hub Post. I’m so proud of our little team! After the awards, we danced the night away and had a right good laugh.

Feeling Swimwear Confident With Matalan*

Feeling Swimwear Confident With Matalan*

The holiday season is fast approaching and although I haven’t yet booked a holiday there is a high chance that I will be. The one thing that I have always found difficult when it comes to holiday shopping is swimwear but luckily, with the help of Matalan, it didn’t turn out all that bad. I can imagine if you are similar to me and lack body confidence then you may dread the bikini season but hopefully some of the styles shared may help to guide you in a more confident direction. And just remember it’s not about what you look like, it is about how you feel and making lovely Summer memories.

Matalan have an excellent choice of swimwear for all different body shapes and sizes. I find it such a challenge finding bikini sets that fit both the top and bottom but thankfully you can buy them separately from Matalan so you can get the sizes that actually fit you rather than multiple sets. The quality of their swimwear range is fantastic as well with really good quality fabric.

The first style I went for was the spot skirted swimsuit. As soon as I clicked on the swimsuit I just knew I would fall in love with it. I love the unique skirt style because it hides my thighs which is not one of my favourite areas. The swimsuit has been constructed with shape enhancing technology designed to slim your waist and flatten your tummy which I feel as though it does. When looking in the mirror, I felt confident and happy with my body which doesn’t usually happen when it comes to swimsuits.

The second style is one that I am a lot more confident with and that’s a tankini bikini. As I have mentioned earlier, I like how you can buy the shorts and the top separately so you can buy the sizes that suit you the best. I really like the bright coloured and fun pattern of the tankini and think it would be brilliant for a summer holiday. It’s the style that I feel a lot more comfortable in out of the three that I chose and that I usually opt for if I am buying swimwear.

I tend to avoid the usual bikini style as I feel really self conscious when it comes to my stomach and my thighs but I just couldn’t resist this tassel pom pom bikini. I think this kind of bikini is great for lazying around the beach or pool. I was a little bit nervous how I would feel in it but after sizing up in the the top half I felt really confident in bikini style. I love the unique tassel pom pom detailing from both the top and the shorts which I believe draws your attention away from my body problem areas. Similarly to the rest of the bikinis that Matalan offer, you can buy the shorts separate from the bikini top which I really like.

What have you got planned for the Summer? Have you ever tried the Matalan swimwear? What’s your thoughts? I have already started looking at a few holiday deals but nothing is organised as of yet.

intu Metrocentre – Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Live

intu Metrocentre – Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Live

If there is one place that I’ve always dreamt of going it would be London Fashion Week and at some point it will happen but for now I was jumping for joy when I was kindly invited to the Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Live event at intu Metrocentre. It’s an annual event that takes place in the Town Square hosted by BBC Newcastle’s Anna Foster where my favourite retailers including New Look, River Island, Topshop, Lipsy and many others showcase their new season fashion to give us regular Joe’s some fashion inspiration for the warmer months.

Before working at New Look myself I always had such a boring style that mostly consisted of jeans and slogan tees however this year I have been experimenting with my style and it was refreshing to see a range of styles on the catwalk too – I have fell head over heels in love with the co-ord sets, bright colours and pastel florals!

As soon as I arrived at intu Metrocentre, I found the catwalk was decorated as if you were walking into Alice in Wonderland’s tea party with flowers, lovely decorated chairs and a pastel pink telephone box that was perfect for a little Instagram moment.

Before the fashion show started, there was a chance to get a hand massage from Molton Brown and take a look at some new makeup releases from Kat Von D as well as mingle and chat to other bloggers that was there. I attended the event with Alice, Amy and Rebecca. There were little canapés and chocolates from Thortans as well as an assortment of refreshments for us to dig into. There are so many places to eat and drink at the Metrocentre nowadays that I still haven’t worked my way round the food court yet. Just a little something to bare in mind if you decide to come for a shopping trip or a little date night with your partner.

The evening consisted of some amazing fashion pieces however my highlights included the gorgeous Ladies’ Day outfits from Lipsy, the animal-esque trend from River Island and all the stunning, pastel themed accessories from Accessorize. As well as seeing the new trends from a handful of brands at intu Metrocentre; Winston, Churchill and Sam were our four legged friends for the evening. The three cute dogs were from Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter and was also given the chance to strut their stuff across the catwalk too. It was unbelievably cute!

If your anything like me and fancy a bit of a spending spree this weekend, don’t forget to grab yourselves a Fashion Live leaflet from Customer Services where you can find all the details of the stores that will be offering discounts across the next couple of days.

You can catch Fashion Live at intu Metrocentre Town Square (outside House Of Fraser):

Friday 11th May: 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm

Saturday 12th May: 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm

Sunday 13th May: 12pm, 2pm, 3.30pm

Make sure to follow #intuFashion for all the gossip from the weekend too.

Are you going to have a look at what’s trending this Spring/Summer? Let me know if you head to the intu Metrocentre to see one of the shows.

How To Dress For The Office*

How To Dress For The Office*

I have always found getting dressed for work just a little bit difficult. When I was in school it was easy because we had a school uniform policy and even back in the day when I was working at Menkind I had to stick to black jeans and their classic bright blue tee but now that I work in an office role I can find it difficult to portray my own personal style.

Although some businesses still prefer the classic suit to give off the professional working woman vibe most have relaxed their work wardrobes. Scaling back from power dressing suits and monochrome colours, our lives have become busier and we need a wardrobe that can do it all – taking us from the office to drinks with the girls on a Thursday evening effortlessly.

With greater freedom than ever before, how do you nail the perfect professional yet stylish look whilst still sharing your own personal style? Dresses retailer QUIZ is on hand to offer their expert advice.

Dresses are so versatile and are a key part to my wardrobe. They are so easy to dress up or down depending on your style. A midi dress is a go-to style if you are still working with a formal dress code. I tend to stay away from lace, bold prints or bright colours as they can make you look like you’re dressed for a night out. Plain styles and subtle prints are an option for a versatile look throughout the year.

If your dress code is a little more casual, you could opt for a jumper dress. They work well through Autumn and Winter paired with tights and heeled ankle boots for a cosy vibe. Shirt dresses are another great choice as the collar will naturally make them feel smarter. I usually pair that style with a belt and some flat shoes.

Trousers are go to option for me especially when I want to feel a little bit more comfortable and put together. I believe that trousers these days make you look effortlessly chic. Tapered trousers hug your figure and subtly show off your body shape. They will look great with smart flats or heals. I tend to wear my flats daily and then switch them for heels for an all important meeting or if I am going out after work.

Culottes and frill hem trousers can be worn to the office when the warmer weather makes a return. Again, I usually go for plain colours or classic checks and stripes. For a more casual look, I wear my trousers with a loose-fitting tee and slouchy cardigan or a plain jumper. Loosely tuck the hem of your top into the trousers at the front to play around with the style and fit. For a more formal look, I swap the t-shirt for a smart blouse or an embroidered shirt.

Shoes are tricky to get right but my go-to office footwear are flats, boots and heels. In an ideal world I would love to flaunt around in the latest pair of trainers but it just doesn’t look professional. Flats for me have always been my most popular choice thanks to their comfort and versatility. Loafers are very much in trend at the moment. Smart yet stylish, they’re the perfect work shoe that can be worn with trousers, dresses and skirts. You’ll often find me in a pair of black loafers.

As soon as the colder weather appears, boots are a fantastic option. Over the knee teamed with a jumper dress is the perfect Winter look for A/W1718. If you are brave enough, heeled boots are also a great option to give you a bit of height.

Heels. I’ve never mastered them but maybe you might have better luck. Leave the sky-scraping ones at home but other than that you have many options: kitten heels, mid-heeled, closed-toe, strappy sandals – the list could go on. These are perfect day to night office choices as well.

What’s your favourite look for the office?

Pinafores & Winter Walks*

Pinafores & Winter Walks*

Anyone who has been following my little corner of the internet for a while will know that I am no fashion blogger. I am so awkward in front of the camera that I don’t actually know how Alice manages to put up with me posing in front of a camera all afternoon. However, if there is one thing that I do love, it is talking about all things fashion and in particular Autumn/Winter fashion. There is just something about layering up and keeping warm that makes me want to get in selfie mode.

I have recently re-found my love for pinafore dresses. They are just so simple to dress up or down with a pair of boots and a printed top underneath. I think this particular one is from New Look and was super affordable from what I can remember. Denim pinafores just remind me of when I was a little girl jumping around in puddles with odd wellies on because I didn’t want to be different from my cousin, Matthew. Fun fact: we used to switch wellies so we both had a red one and a blue one each.

My top is from H! by Henry Holland and I just love the autumnal print. I think it looks really nice underneath the pinafore as well because the print stands out from the denim. I have paired the outfit with a lovely cable knit cardigan because we don’t all walk round pretending it is Summer in the middle of November. Seriously, I take my hats off to the girls who can walk around with bare legs and knee high boots, and still look all glam!

The cardigan is so lovely and warm but it goes with absolutely everything! Are you looking for something to just throw on to pop round for your milk on a Sunday morning? This will keep you warm. Wanting a cover up for a cold date night but don’t want to take your 27lb parka? This will more than likely do the trick.

The cardigan was actually gifted to me by the lovely people at Lovethesales*. They present sales from hundreds of online shops so that you can shop them all in one place, including a Converse sale and a perfume sale too. Not only does this save you rummaging through the sale racks in your local New Look and getting pushed here, there and everywhere but it also saved a lot of time and money too. It was nice to do it from the comfort of my own bed on a Sunday morning rather than having to get dressed to go out in the freezing cold. The service was incredible as the garment arrived within a week of ordering which makes it a brilliant site to turn to for any last minute Christmas present ideas as well. As for the brand, Anna Field, I have never heard of them before but I would love to try a couple more pieces from them including this lovely Dark Rose Backpack for any adventures to the Christmas markets.

You can have a browse at the Lovethesales website here or follow them on Twitter to keep up to date with all their latest sales.

What’s your go to staple outfit during the Autumn/Winter months? Are you a pinafore gal or do you prefer the casual jeans and a hoody?

Sharing My Personal Style

Sharing My Personal Style

Photos: Alice Christina

I have never been a confident bunny when it comes to fashion and choosing what to wear. I am usually just a hoodie, printed tee and leggings kind of girl however I am really wanting to start sharing my personal style a lot more. Now I am not saying that I am going to be the next best fashion blogger or anything but I do think that it will be nice to share my outfits a lot more.

I found the checked cropped top in New Look when the student loan arrived in our bank accounts last month and I just had to pick it up. I fell in love with it more or less straight away and can’t stop wearing it! I love how the peach/orange toned squares just give it more of a unique feel and adds a bit of colour to a monochrome look. Pair it with your favourite jeans and boots and you’re good to go I reckon. The bag is from Accessorize and is the perfect every day bag. It does get a bit heavy at times so having the strap to put over the shoulder is really helpful.

Now on to accessories, I think this necklace fits perfectly with the outfit! It really brings out the peach tones of the top and the gems just add something a bit different to your usual statement necklace. I was lucky enough to receive this when I went to the Candy Rocks Event in September last year. I’ve also got on my staple and much loved Thomas Sabo bracelet.

What kind of outfits do you enjoy wearing? Have you got something in your wardrobe that makes you feel super confident?
