Decorating My Room With Desenio

Decorating My Room With Desenio

As you guys probably know, I’ve recently moved back home and I have spent the past couple of weeks creating an office/walk in wardrobe space full of creativity and a calming, stress-free bedroom to chill in. The bulk of the decorating is done with just a few more finishing touches to add but it’s lacking a little bit of a personal touch. It’s like it needs the cherry on top of the cake or some art on the walls! I took some time out one evening to add the finishing touches to my little spaces using wall art by Desenio.

If you fancy buying your own, the code “thejulyjournal” gives 25% off posters* between 3rd-5th April. You can follow @desenio for more inspiration! *Except for handpicked-/collaboration posters and frames.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past couple of months then you will have definitely heard of Desenio. They have hundreds of photos, quotes, wall art prints and a selection of frames to chose from which can inject any wall with a bit of personality. They make the whole selection process of products so easy that it was hard for me to narrow down my choices! One of the website features that I really like is the Perfect Pair feature – it automatically gives you some inspiration of what prints work together and suggests a matching frame, ensuring all your wall art comes prepped and ready to hang. Super handy for those new to DIY or not so good at it like me

The first two prints that I chose from the site were for my office/walk-in wardrobe. The room itself is full of motivational quotes and inspiration to create a work space that I love. I’ve also wanted to go for a slight feminine theme as it’s also my walk-in wardrobe with plenty of inspiration for outfits and styles. I really like the idea of having two prints that sit side by side; one smaller than the other on the top shelf of my desk.

The first photo art print, is a photograph called Black by artist Anna Subbotina. I wanted to portray my love for beauty in some way and I think is was the perfect addition to my office. It’s definitely something that is either a love or hate kinda thing but in my case I think it is amazing and so simplistic! I got this in the 50x70cm however there is an option to buy it in four other sizes.

I’ve had my eye on something similar to the Girl Power poster for such a while now. I love conveying my love for all things girl power so it was only right to get the GRL PWR quote print to go side by side to the Anna Subbotina image. It’s so simple but powerful at the same time  and that’s what I love about it. I wanted to keep the images quite simple as I have a selection of other images above my desk and the room is full of clothes due to my open wardrobe.

My bedroom has a strong calming theme and to coincide with this I wanted to chose a range of prints that I could look at when I wake up or go to bed and immediately feel at peace and relaxed. The Hygge definition quote that I have put above my bed was the perfect choice. The definition, I feel, describes my bedroom perfectly.

The final two prints I brought were the Green Banana Leaves and Green Palm Tree for the wall as you come in my bedroom. I chose these because I feel as though nature is the perfect addition to create a calming atmosphere. The colours within the prints even represent calm and peaceful which immediately changes the feel of the room. They were all super affordable with the prices starting at just £2.95 for the smallest size. Bargain!

If you are on the hunt for some affordable wall art to update your room, flat or home then I highly recommend checking out Desenio for a variety of photos, quotes and prints. Remember you can use the code “thejulyjournal” gives 25% off posters* between 3rd – 5th April.

Nanshy Brushes*

Nanshy Brushes*

I’ve said it before and I will say it again – behind every perfect makeup application is the brushes that aided you to create that look. Seriously though, where would we be without them? I’m forever looking for new makeup brushes and cruelty free brands that offer them to help with my application so when Nanshy offered to send some of their brushes for me to try out I just couldn’t refuse.

I actually discovered the brand nearly two years ago when I started going cruelty free. Nanshy are based in the UK and 100% cruelty free. They specialise in makeup application tools using synthetic bristles which are made by hand and ensuring that each product is top quality before hitting the shelves.

I received seven brushes all individually packaged in clear and black packaging with useful tips in what products the brushes will work best with and how to use them. I pulled them all out of their packaging and the first thing I noticed was how soft the bristles felt as well as how lightweight they were. I was kindly gifted the white handle ones however there is also a choice of black if you prefer. The brushes I received are: Foundation brush, Concealer brush, Stippling brush, Contour brush, Large Shader brush, Tapered Crease brush and Angled Detailer brush.

I have had a couple of weeks to test them out with various different products and honestly I love them! The quality of the brushes is something that I just can’t get over. I’ve always used Real Techniques or Eco Tools so I didn’t really have anything else to compare them to. I have always used the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply foundation but I started using the Stippling brush to apply my foundation and I am now fully converted. It takes a little longer to buff it into your skin but the finish looks flawless and leaves a really beautiful finish. I have loved using the eyeshadow brushes for blending in my eyeshadow too.

If you are after some new makeup brushes, I recommend checking out Nanshy! Have you tried any of their products before?

Vegan Treats At The Botanist

Vegan Treats At The Botanist

The Botanist is one of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle. It is the kind of place where you can sip cocktails whilst looking over the panoramic views of Newcastle city centre or fall in love with someone whilst listening to the occasional musician that plays live music in the bar area. So, as you can imagine, I squealed with excitement when Alice asked me to be her plus one to review their vegan menu for Spring 2018.

From the moment we walked into The Botanist, we felt a lovely welcome from all the staff members. It was as though I had walked into a fairytale with magical, photography worthy features everywhere you looked. We were shown to the table with a lovely view looking over Grey’s Monument and it had perfect lighting for all those snaps. Our main waiter, Jack was such a lovely person and catered on us hand and foot. He was a young, enthusiastic and knowledgable waiter who was patient with us when we were taking a while to decide. After much deliberation, we went for the Tempura-Fried Cauliflower, Tenderstem Broccoli and Kale Manchurian and Curried Houmous. Both of us agreed that the tempura-fried vegetables was our favourite; it was served with a delicious sweet and sour sesame dipping sauce and in all honesty, I would happily have a bowl of this starter as a main. The Curried Houmous was delicious as well and I would recommend if you like a little bit of spice or Indian food. It was served with flatbread and crudités.

I went for the Falafel Burger for my main course which came with tahini dressing, harissa jam, spiced onions and rocket. For the side, I chose to have sweet potato fries because who turns down that option? My main course tasted amazing! The harissa jam was something I was a little worried about as I am not too keen on spice but the tahini dressing cooled the spice down a little. I would definitely have it again. Alice went for the Malaysian Vegetable Curry which was served with coconut rice. It was similar to a Thai Green Curry but was extremely spicy and something that I definitely wouldn’t be able to handle although it looked amazing.

We weren’t too adventurous with drinks however I would love to return for a cocktail or two in the evening. I had the Homemade Lemonade which was the best thing I have tasted in such a long time whilst Alice had the Raspberry, Grape & Elderflower Cooler which tasted so fruity and sweet compared to mine. Definitely something that I would pick in the future.

You can imagine by this moment that we were both in a food induced coma and was ready for a nap but we still had dessert left. We both went for the Homemade Banana Doughnuts which came with salted caramel sauce and peanut milkshake. I don’t even have any words for this dessert apart from – it was delicious! It’s a no brainer that you must try this dessert before the season is out.

Overall, I couldn’t fault my visit to The Botanist. The whole experience was so beautiful. The restaurant and bar is dreamy and magical, the customer service from the waiters was exceptional and go above and beyond to cater for you and the food quality is just on another level. If you happen to be around Newcastle, I highly recommend you experience it. I can’t wait to go back in the near future!

Have you been to The Botanist yet? You can find your nearest restaurant by checking the website.

Celebrating World Oral Health Day With Green People*

Celebrating World Oral Health Day With Green People*

We should all know how important oral hygiene is so when Green People asked if I wanted to help promote their Natural Smile Campaign across my blog and social media I thought it would be a brilliant time to share a little story with you that not many know about.

I’m on a next level petrified of the dentist and anyone talking about teeth. I can just about manage to brush my teeth and look after them without having a slight panic attack. However, over the past two years I have realised how important my oral health is. The FDI World Dental Federation has even created World Oral Health Day which is celebrated globally each year on 20 March. It’s a day that is aimed to spread messages about good oral hygiene in adults and children alike and how important it is in maintaining general health and well-being.

Personally I’ve never heard of the day until the lovely team at Green People emailed me and offered to send out one of their fluoride-free toothpastes. The date 20 March was chosen to reflect a number of reasons: seniors must have a total of 20 natural teeth at the end of their life to be considered healthy, children should have 20 baby teeth and healthy adults must have a total of 32 teeth and 0 dental cavities. This information expressed on a numerical basis can be translated as 3/20 hence March 20 – how about that for new information that you’ve learnt today!

Anyway your probably not here for facts and figures. Green People offer four different flavours of toothpaste: Minty Cool, Citrus and Aloe Vera, Fennel & Propolis and Mint*. They are all made with organic essential oils that all have excellent cleaning properties. The toothpastes are free from microbeads, SLS and are ideal for people with sensitive teeth and gums.

I’ve previously had the Minty Cool flavour and loved it so I opted for Mint. Similarly, the air bubbles that develop as you are brushing your teeth creates a lovely amount of foam without using any foaming agents that can be found in other toothpastes. From what I remember, the flavours don’t really taste much different however that may be due to both of them being quite a minty flavour. The Peppermint and Aloe Vera flavour is suitable for those that deal with bleeding gums and also certified by EcoCert with more than 89% organic plant ingredients in the formulation.

Your probably wondering how can you get involved in promoting World Oral Health Day? Well you could simply change your cover photo, frame on your social media profile or share memes across social media. There’s also campaign hashtags such as #SayAhh, #WOHD18 that you can use with your photos too. Go on ahead and share that beautiful smile of yours!

Have you ever tried Green People Toothpaste before? It’s became a staple in my skincare collection now!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

Unless you’ve been living under the rock for the past couple of months, you have probably heard about the Urban Decay Naked Heat eyeshadow palette. I was lusting over it for months before I finally managed to get my hands on it as a Christmas present and I have been using it ever since.

The eyeshadow palette is completely different to the Naked 3 palette that was aimed towards those with fair skin whereas the Heat palette is the most dreamiest for those who are in love with warm toned colours. Personally, these are the tones that don’t just suit my skin tone the most but also the shades that I love to use daily. It’s quickly become a staple in my makeup routine. Similar to other Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes, they are pigmented really well, blend easily and are long lasting. I haven’t really used the brush that comes with the palette as I’ve been enjoying the Nanshy brushes which I’ll sharing on my blog soon.

Overall, I love the Naked Heat palette and would probably say that it is my favourite of the Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes that I have tried by far. The shades are amazing for those with olive/darker skin tones and can work during the day and evening to create a range of different looks although I’ve definitely got my eyes on the Naked Heat Petite too…

Have you got this palette? What’s your thoughts?
