This time last week I headed off to Sunderland’s Stadium Of Light for the wonderful North East Vegan Festival, otherwise known as NEVFEST. There was many stalls, live music, crafts, demonstrations and talks that jam packed Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately it was so busy I did feel like a bit of a pain taking my massive Canon 600D so I thought I would share with you some of the items I picked up from the day.

Now I am rather addicted to Rice Dream’s Chocolate Milk, they taste so delicious and are rather cheap for a handy pack of three however there was a Koko Dairy Free stand at the event and I couldn’t resist trying a sample of their Strawberry Milk flavour! If you were or are a fan off the McDonald’s Strawberry Milkshake, then you will love these!! They taste delicious and can imagine they will be rather refreshing on a hot day. Since going vegan, I much prefer the likes of Almond Milk, Coconut Milk and Hazelnut Milk over the other options now.

I was also on the look out for some more Olive Oil especially how mine ran out the night before going. I found this lovely stall that was selling fresh Olive Oil that was being imported from Greece. He also done a selection of vegan wine and sun-dried tomatoes that also tasted delicious too.

My last food stop was Consider It Chocolate which is like the vegan version of Hotel Chocolate! The chocolate truffle bars tasted divine so I just need to treat myself to at least one. I went for the Orange Chocolate that tastes exactly like Terry’s Chocolate Orange but a lot better and Single Malt Whisky because who doesn’t like a bit of alcoholic chocolate?! I do have to admit it wasn’t as boozy as you may think.

Another stall that was at the event was Animal Aid.  I have heard a lot about them but in case you didn’t know they are the largest animal rights group in the UK and they peacefully campaign against all forms of animal abuse and promote cruelty-free living. I never knew that they actually sold various items but they do! I decided to try the Green People Minty Cool toothpaste. After using Superdrug’s own brand which basically tastes like something from a factory, I decided I needed to expand my options a bit. Don’t get me wrong I love my Toothy Tabs from Lush but sometimes you just need to mix it up a bit!

I also got my first badge to add on to my Lush Canvas Bag that I use daily and treated myself to a new toothbrush. Do you know when people say that it’s the little things that make you happy?! Well that’s basically me in a sentence. I was so happy to find out that the toothbrush is made out of recycled yogurt cups. Don’t judge me okay…

The last stand I went to was Harper’s Bizarre Candles. Over the past year I have been rather addicted to buying and burning candles around my room. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up until I leave the house and the first thing I do when I come in from an eventful day so it’s only right that I expanded my collection. Their candles are made from soya wax that isn’t associated with the pollutants and nasties that come from paraffin waxes. The scents are so strong but smell amazing, much better than Yankee Candles! Me and Libby from Gingerbread Buttons spent a good fifteen minutes blocking everyone from smelling the candles whilst trying to choose our own. In the end I went for A Slice Of Paradise because it smells like coconut and pineapple! All the proceedings from this candle go towards the Jerry Green Dog Rescue charity. It’s such a lovely, fresh, summery smell that I wish I brought two of them.

Overall I really enjoyed my time at the vegan festival and I really want to go to some more during the year. It was brilliant to see so many like-minded people in one place celebrating veganism. If you want to find festivals in your area, I use Vegfest to find events that are local to me. Even if your not a vegan, I highly recommend going for a nice day out with the family!
