Unless you have been living under a rock this weekend, it has been the Lush Christmas 2016 launch across the UK and obviously I just had to have a browse to see what’s in store. My local Lush store opened up an hour earlier than usual and I was greeted by one of my favourite sales assistants, Jess. As she shown me round the collection, I tried to pick up some products that are new to me although I couldn’t help pick up a couple of old favourites.
First up are the bubbles bars and there are quite a few new ones to try this year. The first bubble bar I spotted was Snowie. He kind of looks like a Snowman crossed with an Incredible character, something rather unusual for the festive season if you ask me! If you like the citrus scents then you will probably appreciate this one as it is made with grapefruit and neroli oils. He also has a lovely rose oil fragrance too. I can imagine that this one will be lovely to use on an Autumnal crisp morning when you are needing a bit of a pick me up.
The next one that caught my eye was Ruby Red Slippers and as soon as I got a whiff of the scent I was happy to be smelling the same scent as Pooh Stix from the Kitchen. You can tell what I will be making a cocktail out of sooner rather than later! The spicy floral fragrance comes from the rose and carnation absolutes whilst the cream of tartar will soften and nourish the skin. For those of you who do get a hint of orange, it’s because there is tangerine oil in the formula too. To me, Ruby Red Slippers is the scent that you would find whilst walking round a Christmas Market and wanting to get all the cinnamon-orange scented Christmas decorations.
I knew that I wanted to pick up one of the bubble wands; they have Magic Wand, The Magic of Christmas and Santasaurus but the one I went for is Jester because it was just right up my street. Anything that smells of a strong, citric orange is a product that you know I will fall in love with time and time again. This fun little Jester is made with sicilian mandarin, bergamot and tangerine oils giving it the strong orange juice scent that I love. The best thing about the bubble wands is that they tend to last for around 5 or 6 baths depending on how bubbly you want them. I can guarantee that before November, I would have probably picked up the other three too because it would be rude not to, right?!
Another bubble bar that I was excited to see returning to the shelves this Christmas was The Christmas Penguin. He was one of my favourites from last years collection because it gives off a fresh, citrus scent however it is more subtle than Jester. I always used him when I was needing a bit of a pick me up because the bergamot, sicilian lemon and orange flower absolute uplifts your mood.
The last bubble bar that I picked up was the classic strawberry scented Peeping Santa. Last year, he was rather late to my collection (how very naughty of him!) but I am so happy to see he has returned for another year. He is made with bergamot and geranium oils to give him a rather fruity fragrance whilst the cocoa butter and shea butter is sandwiched between him to give a rich and rather nourishing, chocolatey vibe.
The other week, when I went to pick up the Halloween range, I was lucky enough to try the Sleepy Body Lotion in a sample pot and I just had to commit in buying one for myself. This twilight scented treat is perfect for smoothing all over your body after a hot, relaxing bubble bar. The tonka absolute just works nicely with the lavender flower infusion and lavender water. If you struggle to fall asleep in the evenings, I feel you because I have been there, rub some of this on to your hands and the top of your chest and I guarantee as the scent travels up to you then those tired eyes will slowly close as you fall into a deep sleep.
For all you Coca-Cola lovers out there, they have brought back Santa Baby which is a lovely matte red lip tint however I was drawn to Sugar Plum Fairy. When you first take off the lid, you are greeted with a dark purple formulation however don’t be fooled. I swatched it on the back of my hand and it gives off a lovely light purple with a bit of a shine too. Luckily the shimmer isn’t too intense so you can get away with everyday wear. The jojoba oils and kalahari melon moisturise your lips whilst the sweet wild orange oil leaves a delicious berry scent. The colour reminds me of Confident when I tried it on in Lincoln during the summer however it’s a lot more sheer and moisturising than the lipstick. Before you leave the store, make sure you test the twist at the bottom of the lipstick because I had to exchange mine as it broke but don’t let my experience put you off buying it.
Another product that I was lucky enough to have a sneak peak of last week was the Bubbly Shower Gel. Inspired by bucks fizz, this one is definitely something to celebrate in the shower if you are similar to me and prefer the citrus, orange scents. Unlike anything I have smelt before, Bubbly is such a sweet scent due to the sweet orange oil, fresh grape juice and lime oil. Personally, it’s like heaven in a bottle.
Lucky enough for me, I still have my 1 litre of Snow Fairy Shower Gel so I didn’t need to pick one up, however Rose Jam Shower Gel jumped straight into the basket because I’ve missed the scent of Turkish Delight so much. I know that Prince Charming, which is available as part of the Valentine’s Collection, is rather similar but it’s just not the same. The rose oil, rose flower absolute and sweet vanilla pod smell amazing when lathered across your body. Add the Rose Jam Bubbleroon and your good to go!
This year I have become partial to a shower smoothie or two, you only need to take a look at my previous Lush Kitchen hauls to find this out. Of course, nothing will replace Dreamwash Roulade just because it is my eczema relieving treat however once I saw Candy Cane Roulade on the shelves, I knew I needed a piece. Unlike any of the other Christmas pieces I picked up, Candy Cane smells so refreshing and awakening with the clear mint fragrance. Most shower smoothies are made with organic cocoa butter, soya milk and almond oil to smooth, moisturise and nourish the skin which is perfect during the winter months. Goodbye dry skin, you’re not going to effect me this year! The outside of the roulade is made with honeydew melon pulp which I think is the ingredient that gives it a lovely fresh scent.
Finally, the bath bombs. I did actually treat myself to one of the gift boxes as it worked out cheaper and you receive an Oxford Street store exclusive. I am planning on uploading an unboxing video on my YouTube Channel later this week but I did pick up two that wasn’t in the set. First up is the new and improved So White. If you’ve know me for a while then this will come as no surprise but I love the apple scent from this product! I wish they could just make it into a perfume so I can wear it all day long. I find the mix of bergamot oil and and rose absolute are really calming and peaceful whereas the neroli oil and orange flower absolute uplifts your mood.
Finally I picked up the Never Mind The Ballistics bath bomb which is a new addition to the collection this year. If you are familiar to Roller from the Kitchen then you may see similarities at first glance however this treat is rather fresh and fruity. The lime and sweet wild orange oils are so uplifting whereas the fresh bananas, cocoa butter and cream of tartar soften the water and skin.
Have you picked up any of the Lush Christmas range yet? What’s your thoughts on the new products? Let me know in the comments.
