Oh how I love baking! Scones is probably one of the ‘things’ which people associate British people. You can probably bet any amounts of money and you will find them in afternoon tea, cute countryside cafe’s and will probably find someone baking them on The Great British Bake Off. I spotted this recipe on the BBC Food website but it is the best savory scone you will ever come across…


Ingredients (makes 6-8 scones):
225g/8oz self raising flour
pinch of salt
55g/2oz butter
25g/1oz mature cheddar cheese, grated
150ml/5fl oz milk

The Method
1. Heat the oven to 220C/Gas mark 7. Lightly grease a baking sheet. (I have found that you can just grease the baking tray as well.)

2. Mix together the flour and salt. Rub in the butter, it’s probably best to use your hands for this step. 

3. Stir in the cheese and then the milk to get a soft dough. 

4. Turn the dough on to an extremely floured work surface and knead lightly. Pat out to around 2cm thick. Use some cutter stamps to cut out round shapes and place on the baking sheet. Make sure you use all your dough! 

5. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk and bake for 12-15 minutes or until risen and golden. Cool on a wire rack. 


So there you have it, easy as ABC! Even I can manage to bake them! They are even more delicious if you eat them warm with plenty of Lurpak butter on them. It’s just one of those foods which I find that one of them just isn’t enough. Addicted much?! Let me know if you want to see any more recipes!
