Living Nature Luminous Powder Review*

Living Nature Luminous Powder Review*

Hands up if you have oily skin! I do and to be honest I am sick of searching around for pressing powders that claim they matte your face when really they don’t. I was on the search again when my beloved Body Shop’s Bronzing Powder ran out the other day. I wanted something that was light and that I could apply without foundation but will still give me some kind of coverage. Of course, I jumped at the chance when an email landed in my inbox asking if I wanted to review Living Nature’s Luminous Pressed Powder.

Living Nature is a natural skincare and cosmetics brand based in New Zealand. They have a lovely range of products that use the nourishing, purifying and skin-healing benefits from New Zealand’s native plants. They even conduct ongoing independent testing so there is no cruelty to animals involved when using their products which is brilliant in itself. They are cruelty free certified because they use only natural ingredients, preservatives and fragrances with no harmful chemicals or toxins. Another positive that Living Nature has against other brands is that all their packaging is 100% recyclable and free from dioxin and elemental chlorine which is found in most makeup products.

So firstly, the packaging looks elegant and classy. As you open the pressed powder, you are greeted with a sponge and a compact mirror which is super handy for travelling and throwing in your handbag last minute. I usually apply my powder with a brush therefore I would probably have no use for the sponge however it is really handy to have for those nights out where you don’t want to take loads of makeup with you or to touch up on the go.

The powder itself is a really light consistency that gives my skin a lovely glow with or without foundation. I’ve mostly been using it as a setting powder over my foundation and concealer and I have found that it keeps it all in place even after being out the house for 10+ hours on work days. I have also used it by itself and although it is only subtle, it does even and brighten my skin tone however the coverage isn’t enough on it’s own for me personally. If you prefer products that are rather light on the skin then I highly recommend you trying this one out.

Overall, I really like it. I have obviously used The Body Shop’s Bronzing Powder but this is completely different. It’s a lovely addition to my collection for the new season. The powder comes in three shades: Light, Medium and Deep. I chose the colour Medium which was a perfect match for my olive skin.

Have you tried anything from Living Nature before? Have you tried the Luminous Pressed Powder before? Let me know your favourite setting powders.

Lush Halloween 2016

img_0010-2

Lush released their Halloween range on Friday and I couldn’t help but head down to Lush Newcastle and have a look in. With a couple of old classics, oh Lord of Misrule how I have missed you, we also welcome four new bath products to enjoy as well.

Lord of Misrule has been the holy grail product that everyone loves when the Halloween collection is released. It comes in a bath bomb and shower cream ready for you to indulge your evenings in a bath and escape the cold air. The Lord of Misrule scent is a spicy been of patchouli oil to give the uplifting, mood boosting effect whilst the black pepper oil gives it the spice. The bath bomb is packed full of vanilla absolute and popping candy. Personally, I choose this over anything else to have a bath with on fireworks night. Don’t be fooled by the green exterior of the bath bomb as it fizzes away to reveal a beautifully dark red coloured centre. The shower cream includes wheatgerm oil is what provides the shower gel with a rich, creamy feeling as you rub it over your skin. Did you know that black pepper oil is recommend for headaches, aching muscles, combat mental tiredness and as a natural pain reliever?

Sparkly Pumpkin is another product that has returned to the shelves for another year. If you are a Sunnyside Bubble Bar fan then you will more than like love Sparkly Pumpkin too. This uplifting bubble bar is full of lime, grapefruit and juniperberry oils which are all brilliant for uplifting your mood and balancing and protecting the skin. The cream of tartar is what helps soften the skin like with most other bubble bars that Lush sell.

Autumn Leaf is the first one that I got super excited about seeing. If you have ever had the Grass Shower Gel or Supertramp then it is a scent much like them. It has sandalwood oil which helps protect, soothe and soften the skin whilst the neroli and bergamot oils are really uplifting. It also has spring green lustre in the bath bomb to add a bit of sparkle to your evening. Another new addition is the Pumpkin bath bomb which goes perfectly with Sparkly Pumpkin. Unlike Autumn Leaf, it smells unbelievably citrusy! The vanilla absolute gives it the sweet scent whilst the pimento berry oil gives it the strong fruit fragrance.

The final bath bomb that was added to the collection is Monster’s Ball. If you are a dry skin suffer like myself then you will love this bath bomb. His eye is actually a miniature bath melt packed full of skin softening fair trade organic cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is really nourishing on dry skin and eczema. The bath bomb itself has lime and neroli oil to help uplift your mood. It also has himalayan rock salt which has natural antiseptic and astringent properties of salt. It helps to brighten the skin by boosting the blood circulation.

Finally, I picked up the bath melt, Boo. If you managed to pick up the Ginger shower gel in the Kitchen then you will more than likely recognise the scent almost immediately after smelling the product. It has calming mimosa and warming ginger that makes you feel super relaxed before heading to bed. The fair trade organic cocoa butter is brilliant for dry skin and eczema whilst the sandalwood creates a gentle woody scent. If you want to saviour him, it is possible to half him and get two baths from Boo.

Have you picked up any of the products from the Halloween collection? Let me know which one is your favourite.

Hey Autumn

img_0026

Autumn, I have been longing for you to arrive. You bring new challenges. Exciting events and dates to look forward to. I love you because you welcome layered clothing. Your closer to Christmas, my favourite time of year. I love the colours of the leaves. I love drinking hot chocolates in the evening with a feel good film (yes, I have started watching Arthur Christmas daily). Ankle boots have been my obsession, they are so cosy and comfortable especially paired with some really cute frilly socks. Duvet days and cosy evenings is what you are all about. Of course, we have the Lush Winter collection released as well. You welcome evenings spent in a blanket full of warm bubbles to get lost in a wonderful book. You bring darker shades of lipsticks, blankets and a happier feeling. Candles make everything feel more homely. I’m going to make the most of my Autumn.

What’s your favourite thing about Autumn?

September’s Lush Kitchen Round Up

I have been so good with my money recently until Lush Kitchen brought out The Comforter Body Lotion and then it all spiralled out of control. However, I think I deserve it. I have been working extremely hard at my new job and I’ve really been enjoying it. Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up when you walk through the door at 6.45pm, right?! Of course, it’s only right that I share with you what I have picked up.

It’s obvious that the first product I want to talk to you about is The Comforter Body Lotion. If your a lover of the fruit-scented blackcurrant Ribena scent then you will fall head over heals in love with this. It makes your skin feel super soft and smell amazing all day! It’s currently sitting on my bedside table so that I can rub in a pea size amount into my hands now and then.

I have picked up four bath bombs on the Kitchen recently: Shut Up And Get Over It, Waving Not Drowning, Lemon Days And Ginger Beer and Roller.

Shut Up And Get Over It is the bright orange one that smells much like tangerines. The citrus scented oils help to uplift your mood whilst the coarse sea salt leaves the skin feeling soft and clean. Waving Not Drowning is rather different to any of the other of the bath bombs I have picked up. It is such a relaxing scent with lavender oil and ylang ylang oil. I am actually planning on using this one later tonight after I have came back from Slimming World. Stay tuned on my instagram for a review later.

Roller is the one that everyone obsesses over. I actually heard that it was sold out within minutes of getting released on the Kitchen. The cocoa butter and cream of tartar softens your skin whilst the tonka absolute, brazilian orange oil and geranium oils help to uplift your mood. Personally, I think it smells quite similar to Twilight Shower Gel. It even has purple lustre to add a bit of sparkle in your life. Finally, I picked up Lemon Days And Ginger Beer. I think I have had this one before but if not I have had something rather similar. The bath bomb is jam packed of lemon peel, ginger oil, powdered ginger and sandalwood oil. It smells amazing and is definitely worth trying to pick up when it’s next in the Kitchen.

Have you picked up anything from the Kitchen recently? Who’s excited for the Winter 2016 collections?

The Vegan Edit: Burger In A Bowl

Recently I have been craving one of Nando’s Veggie Burgers but anyone following Slimming World will know that they are a lot of syns, so it was time to find a new option that was healthier but just as tasty. Fakeaways is a god send! After reading the burger in a bowl recipe, I decided to recreate my own and I thought I should share the recipe for anyone looking for a vegan friendly but more healthier version burger.

Ingredients:

low calorie cooking spray or 1 tbsp oil

1 onion, sliced thinly

2 crushed garlic cloves

half a packet of vegetarian mince

a handful of spinach

pepper, chopped into chunks

cucumber, chopped into chunks

mini plum tomatoes, cut in half

gherkins (optional)

1 tbsp reduced salt and sugar tomato ketchup

img_9984-2

Method:

1. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low calorie cooking spray or oil and place over a medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft and golden.

2. Stir in the mince and cook over a medium heat until it’s cooked. I learnt that it doesn’t change colour so make sure you see whether it’s browned.

3. Meanwhile, mix together the spinach, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber and gherkins in a bowl. Spoon the vegetarian mince mixture on top and drizzle over 1 tbsp of ketchup.

It tastes super delicious and is a lot like a burger flavour but without the bread and all the syns that you would find in other burgers. It also shows that you can turn more or less any recipe into a vegan friendly choice. It took about 10 minutes to make so for any of those who don’t like standing in front of a cooker for hours on end, this would be a good choice!

Let me know if you cook it yourself. Have you got any yummy, vegan recipes I could try next?
