Products Lush Are Discontinuing

It’s that time again when Lush are introducing exciting new products but in return there’s a few favourites that we won’t be seeing again. This week I popped into my local Lush and stocked up on the ones that we are going to be saying goodbye to very soon. Last year Libby wrote a similar sort of post (read here), so this year I thought I would compile a list for any more Lush addicts out there that has been living under a rock.

Out of all the products leaving the shelves, I am most upset about Honey Bee. This bath bomb has done wonders for my dry skin. The main ingredient is obviously honey as it soothes, retains moisture and is antiseptic which is part of the reason it’s so good for those with sensitive skin. The cooling aloe vera works well on eczema and sun burn too. Rhassoul mud, found near Moroccos Atlas Moutains, is packed full of natural cleansing properties but also helps maintain soft skin.

Another favourite is Green Bubbleroon. I have recently fell in love with this once since Jess, a Lush Newcastle employee, suggested mixing it with Avobath. The combination works a treat. Like all bubble bars that Lush make, the organic cocoa butter and cream of tartar create silky-soft bubbles that leave your skin feeling hydrated. The fresh avocado and shea butters leave your skin feeling super soft and moisturised whilst the bergamot uplifts your mood.

Granny Take A Dip Bubble Bar was only just released last year. It was originally a bath bomb rather similar to The Experimenter as it turned the bath water into a lovely array of colours. Unfortunately this colourful, bubbly treat will be disappearing from the shelves as well. I am hoping that they will replace it with something else with a warming, citrus scent but I suppose we need to wait and see.

The last bubble bar that is leaving us is Pop In The Bath. This one I believe is rather underrated. If your love a citrus scented bubbly treat then you better starting stocking up on this one. It has a lovely array of mandarin, lemon and bergamot oils that leaves a scent much similar to a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake.

The final product that was announced was Porridge Soap which I haven’t tried myself but I have heard that it is really soothing on eczema and dry skin because of the oats and coconut oil. I didn’t pick this up because I still have plenty of their soaps and just wanted to say goodbye to a few of my favourites. From what I’ve learnt this is going to be happening rather soon so there is still some time for you to stock up.

Are any of your favourite Lush products leaving us? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments.

The Sunday Post: Exploring Lincoln

If you follow me on social media then you will know that Edd and I travelled down to Lincoln to spend some time with his family. We arrived on Sunday night and left Thursday afternoon. The holiday consisted of a lot of sleeping, spending hours in the sun with his cousins and spending a day in Lincoln exploring the city. I wanted to share with you some of the snapshots that I took whilst I was in Lincoln city centre to mark such a lovely week with my favourite person.

Lincoln Castle was the first place we wanted to visit so after browsing the shelves of Primark, changing in the car because it was so hot for jeans and a top we made our way to the Castle. When we reached the Castle, we had a quick look at all the buildings inside the walls but the main attraction was being able to walk around the walls. The views were breathtaking! You could see all the way round Lincoln. They occasionally hold events but they were mainly for young children to learn more about the history of the Castle.

Lincoln Castle

Wave and Weeping Window is a cascade of several thousand handmade ceramic poppies that were pouring down from part of the wall. The artist, Paul Cummins and designer, Tom Piper are brought to audiences at venues such as Lincoln Castle as part of the 14-18 NOW programme. It aims to prompt a new, nationwide dialogue around the legacy of the First World War. Each of the poppies were planted by a volunteer in memory of the life of a British and Colonial soldier lost during the war.

Lincoln Cathedral

After climbing up one of the steepest streets I have ever seen, I was greeted with beautiful architecture of Lincoln Cathedral. Words can’t describe how lovely it was! As I walked round I couldn’t help but think of all the scenes in Harry Potter even though it’s not actually where the film was made. Everything just looked so beautiful.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Lincoln. It cost about £29 for both of us to go in the Cathedral and Castle and we can even visit again within six months time which I think is a complete bargain. It was nice to spend some quality time with Edd and I can’t wait to visit more cities with him.

Have you ever been to Lincoln before? Where should we visit next?

Another Collective Lush Haul

Whenever I am feeling a little bit down in the dumps, a trip to Lush Newcastle or a browse on the Lush Kitchen always cheers me up. I thought I would pick up some of my classic faves and some new bits too.

Firstly, I picked up Five O’Clock Whistle for my dad’s birthday yesterday. It smells amazing and as far as I am aware it is a rather new product as I haven’t seen this before. It’s a shaving smoothie rather than a cream which I think my appeal more to my dad even though he does like the Dirty Shaving Cream. The main ingredients include Jojoba Oil and Lime Juice that leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. It also has Coffee and Lavender Infusion and Kaolin to cleanse the skin and Extra Virgin Olive Oil to condition the skin. I am so excited for him to try it and let me know his thoughts.

Before my Lush interview, I treated myself to Intergalactic (review here) which is one of my faves and Fizzbanger which is such a lovely summer scent. I love both of these bath bombs after I have been in the sun all day as they feel really cooling on the skin. The Key Lime Pie Lip Balm is the last thing I picked up whilst browsing the shelves of my local Lush. Since buying this, I haven’t used anything else on my lips because they make them feel super soft. It’s filled with citrus oils and butters that help repair cracked and dry lips. Although the green shade might look a little daunting in the tin, you don’t need to worry as it actually comes out clear on the lips. I like how they are the perfect travel companion and don’t take up much room in your bag compared to that a lipstick. Did I mention how good it smells too?!

Guardian Of The Forest

I’ve only had Guardian Of The Forest once before but I loved it so much that I needed to add it into my basket whilst picking up some of the Lush Kitchen Swag the other week. As far as I am aware it’s only available online or from Lush Oxford Street but I highly recommend trying it. The bath bomb has Cypress Oil and Oakmoss Absolute which helps to calm your mind and body whilst the Rosewood and Lime Oils uplift your mood. It leaves your skin feeling super soft as it has Cream of Tartar within the formula and an array of lustre.

Lush Bomb

The Lush Bomb is one that I’ve spotted on the Kitchen before but didn’t get a chance to pick it up. The other week I managed to grab one before they sold out and it may be my favourite one from the Kitchen so far. If you know me by now, I am a lover of all things citrus scented and that’s exactly what the Lush Bomb is. The Patchouli, Sweet Orange and Lemongrass oils release a lovely and rather uplifting scent into your bathroom as it fizzes away. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to capture the beautiful array of green and yellow shades because it was fizzing so fast however it left behind a lovely mermaid turquoise shade in the water to relax in before starting a busy day. You even get your very own Lush Kitchen ribbon to keep after the bomb as finished fizzing – a must for all Lush Kitchen fans!

Have you picked up any Lush bits recently? I would love to know whether you have tried any of these before.

The Vegan Edit: Veggie Paella

On Sunday, I touched upon wanting to kick start my weight loss again (read here) after a few really bad weeks months. I have been over eating a lot of rubbish and I think it’s partly to do with how anxious I have been feeling recently. I just haven’t quite been myself. As I bit of motivation to stay on track, I thought I would create a new series on my blog; The Vegan Edit. It’s going to include vegan friendly recipes that I have cooked. This might sound strange to those who know me in person as I never cook. In fact I try to avoid it and usually end up asking for Edd to order a takeaway on the Dominos website. The other day we attempted Paella, a Spanish dish with the main ingredients being rice and vegetables. It was delicious!!

low calorie cooking spray or 1 tbsp oil

1 onion, sliced thinly

2 crushed garlic cloves

1 sliced red pepper

1 sliced yellow pepper

1 sliced green pepper

4 tomatoes chopped

350g dried paella rice

2 tsp smoked paprika

large pinch of saffron

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tsp ground cumin

finely grated zest of unwaxed lemon and juice of the lemon

1 litre boiling vegetable stock

100g frozen peas

100g frozen sweetcorn

salt and freshly ground black pepper

small handful of fresh parsley

1. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low calorie cooking spray or oil and place over a medium heat. We used a wok that we usually use for cooking stir fry. Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft and golden. If the onion starts to stick add a little water. Add the peppers and stir-fry for a further 4-5 minutes.

2. Stir in the tomatoes, rice, paprika, saffron, turmeric, cumin, lemon zest and juice.

3. Stir in the stock and simmer for 15-20 minutes. If it starts to stick just add a little water.

4. Add the peas and sweetcorn and simmer for 10 minutes or until the rice is tender. Again, add little water if it’s needed. Season to taste by adding salt and ground black pepper, sprinkle over the parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

You could add olives at the end of the cooking time to add even more flavour. The best thing about this dish is that if your with friends/family and they aren’t all vegan they could simply add pieces of chicken or fish to their portion while you enjoy the vegan friendly choice. It was so quick to make and tastes super good with a decent helping of lemon juice drizzled over the top.

Let me know if you cook it yourself. Have you got any yummy, vegan recipes we could try?

The Sunday Post: Stranger Things, Suicide Squad & Losing Weight

So it’s Sunday Morning and I thought I better catch up with you all before Edd arrives so we can head down to see his family. On Friday, I combatted my anxiety and went on a three hour train journey to Warrington to spend the weekend with my sister and Noel. It’s been the best couple of days in a long time. Noel has grown so much. Since I last seen him he can even sit up by himself; drink from a cup and nearly feed himself with his spoon! He has been trying lots of different foods and especially enjoys chocolate croissants. It’s amazing how much babies can develop in such a short space of time.

At the start of the week, Edd and I went to see Suicide Squad despite the bad reviews it has been getting. Personally I really enjoyed it. It was full of action which is what I really like to see in films such as this one, Harley Quinn is a babe and I highly recommend you watching it. Edd really enjoyed it too and we both thought it didn’t deserve all the criticism that it has been receiving.

We have also binge-watched Stranger Things (finally)! All  I can say about that one is W-O-W!! I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched it but I have a lot of questions that need answering so fingers crossed for another season. The show is an eight part sci-fi series set in the 80s; the complete opposite to anything I usually pick but it was certainly worth watching. Edd wanted to drag it out over a couple of days but after watching the first five in one night, he couldn’t wait to continue it the following morning. I was a bit skeptical at first but it was definitely not what either of us was expecting. Speaking of Netflix, Scream finished this week too. I thoroughly enjoyed the finale, it was definitely not what I was expecting though. The directors have you thinking all sorts of different things whilst your watching it. I don’t really want to say anything else cause spoilers and things.

Lastly, I need to lose weight. I’ve probably said this statement a handful of times on my blog and thousands more on my social media but this time I mean it. I stepped on the scales whilst I was staying at Edd’s the other night and got the shock of my life. I felt sick and so disappointed in myself, especially after all the hard work I put in whilst following Slimming World at the start of the year. Although, the shock of the number displayed clearly upset me maybe it’s the slap on my face that I needed. On a positive note, I have been swimming twice in the past fortnight and want to continue going every week, even when I start work. I don’t want to be fat forever! I want to be able to feel confident and happy in myself without feeling as though everyone is looking at how big I am. I’ll probably keep you updated with my progress.

How’s your week been? Have you got up to anything exciting? Have you got any weight loss tips? What’s your thoughts on Stranger Things, Suicide Squad and Scream? Let me know how your doing.
