I feel like I owe myself some ‘me’ time away from my home town. Last week, this is exactly what I did. Phill and I headed off to London and stayed with his dad for nearly a week. I felt as though I could truly relax before the stress of semester two. Venturing to Hyde Park within the space of five minutes was a regular occurrence for us and it almost turned into a morning tradition during our stay. I find it amazing how something as quiet and calming as Hyde Park could be in the centre of the busiest city in the UK and I can’t wait to return sometime soon.
Do you have that special place which you enjoy returning to time and time again? It’s always nice to just get away from things sometimes!
A lot of the time I find it hard to save money and budget. Perhaps all students are like this. One of my goals for this year is to get myself out of debt and to try and save some money to do things which I really want to do like going on holiday and buying my dream MacBook. Today, I am sharing with you some ideas which I will be saving money this year.
Staying In Is The New Going Out – I used to go out to different restaurants rather than staying in however this is the new norm! You can easily find recipes online now and when you look at the price which you would spend on going out then you realise cooking is probably cheaper after all. Instead of buying your lunch from the university cafe just simply make something at home and bring it in with you.
Check Your Bank Balance Daily – I check my balance at least once everyday. This stops me from spending money on unwanted things and makes me really think that perhaps I haven’t got the money to do a particular thing. I use my mobile banking app which is really easy to set up and nearly every bank has one. I use Barclay’s and personally I find it so easy and quick.
Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help – I completely understand what your going through, trust me! But you don’t want to get all embarrassed and ask your parents for help, right?! Well, did you know that most universities have financial support who offer advice about anything to do with money even if it is something simple like budgeting.
Look At Your Outgoings and Income – Work out exactly how much you have for a week or a month and then you can budget your lifestyle around that. It might be a difficult task especially when your not one for being organised but it will work if you can get your head around it. Look out your priorities and then you can see what you have left to spend whether that’s treating yourself to that lovely new dress or that brand new Urban Decay collection which they brought out recently.
Part Time Is A Must – I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have a job as well as studying for a degree. It just gives you that extra little bit of money which you might need to buy your weekly shopping in. You could do what I do and put the money from working into a savings account so that it’s there when your money is running low. Just make sure you are not working yourself to hard as that is when the problems start crawling in. They usually suggest having a job which is between 16-20 hours a week before it begins to effect university work.
Was this post helpful? I would love to know what you think!
I can’t believe it is my last full day in London and this time next week I will be getting ready for university again! To cheer myself up, I thought I would treat us to a post dedicated to Urban Decay’s Naked On The Run
palette which personally has come one of my faves very quickly.
Those who know me, know I am a massive fan of Urban Decay as a brand and if I haven’t already done so by now I would have probably headed to the London boutique by now! This palette has been on my wishlist ever since the rumours started flying about the net and when I got it for Christmas from the boyfriend (extra brownie points for him!), I couldn’t help but jump for joy when I opened it and couldn’t wait to start using the shades.
I reckon Naked On The Run
has everything you could possibly want in a palette. The palette has six gorgeous new shades: Dive, Fix, Resist, Dare, Stun and 5050 which are perfect for creating any kind of look whether that be night or day. I also like how some of the shades are matte and others have a bit of a shimmer to them. As well as these it includes one of their eye pencils in the shade ‘Stag’ which is a lovely deep brown shade – perfect for creating a natural eye look, a Perversion Mascara
which I have yet to try, a vibrant pink blusher which is great for day looks, a bronze and a Naked lipgloss
in the shade Sesso. Sesso is a gorgeous pinky rose colour which isn’t too sticky or shiny but can still be worn on its own or with lipstick for that extra bit of gloss.
Overall it has been my go to palette. All you need to do now is add your favourite foundation, concealer and brushes and your good to go. You even have a large mirror which you can use to help create detailed smokey eyes, what more could your want?!
Long coach journeys’ is something which I have got used to. Last year I shared my road trip essentials, and today I thought I could share with you what is in my bag for the long seven hour journey that Phill and I will be doing later tonight. I also, secretly, wanted to share my new handbag which I picked up in the New Look Sale the other week. Personally I am in love with it and surprisingly, it fits quite a lot in!
Probably the most important item for coach journeys is the earphones and iPod combo. I don’t know where I would be without them. Coach journeys can get a bit load and sticking some of your favourite music on could be an easy distraction. My current favourite albums are Welcome To The Jungle, Songs of Innocence and Motion.
The notebook which was from my lovely blogger friend, Katy
, is perfect for writing down any ideas for blog posts, to do lists and any last minute meetings. It’s a perfect size for my bag as it doesn’t take up a lot of space.
As far as beauty and skincare is concerned, I am taking a fair few bits on the coach with me. A Body Shop Hand Cream is perfect for keeping my hands soft and nourished, an Impulse Body Spray is perfect for making me feel a bit fresher (you tend to get a bit hot after two hours on the coach) and my Honeymania Lip Balm is perfect for keeping those dry, cracked lips at bay.
My last few items are Eleanor And Park
which I have been saving for my London trip and again is perfect for giving me a distraction on the coach. I haven’t started reading it yet but I have heard a lot of good reviews about the author and the book. The final item I am taking is my phone. Something most people say is glued to me. Perfect for posting a tweet, promoting my blog and playing endless amounts of levels on Candy Crush.
Have you ever been to London before? Can you suggest anything worth doing while we are there? Let me know in the comments below!
On Friday, Lush lovers we anxiously waiting on the net to make their first orders for the new Valentine’s Day collection. As a treat for finally finishing my first semester, I thought why not buy a couple of items from the collection and at the end of the day they won’t be there for long! I decided to pick up the Love Locket, Lonely Heart, Unicorn Horn, Heart Throb, Prince Charming Shower Gel and The Kiss Lip Scrub (can you tell the student loans have entered the bank account!).
The Unicorn Horn is a bubble bar packed with ingredients aimed to help you relax including lavender oil and ylang ylang. Alex, the sales assistant who helped me chose some treats, shown me a demonstration of the bubble bar and I like how the bath water turns a lovely pastel colour with sparkles and colourful stars. Heart Throb is another bubble bar which I picked up with ingredients like shea butter to help moisturise and soften the skin and vanilla absolute to help you feel calm and relaxed.
Lonely Heart is very much like Sparkly Pumpkin and Sunnyside with the aim to perk you up whilst still keeping your skin soft. The bubble bar contains lemongrass which uplifts and awakens the skin as well as jasmine absolute and ylang ylang. I really like these type of bubble bars and personally in love with the gold glitter effect.
Now if you know me then you should know that I love the Bubblegum Lip Scrub and swear by the stuff in order to keep those dry lips at bay. When I found out that The Kiss Lip Scrub has edible red hears (cuteness alert!) and hundreds and thousands in, well I just had to pick this up. It is basically like sweets in a mini tub to make those lips kissable – what more could you ask for really?!
If your looking for your Prince Charming this year then look no further. The oh so famous shower gel is back jam packed with marshamllow root, vanilla absolute and pomergrante juice – this little gem is bound to sweep you off your free. It leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth as well as leaving you smelling delicious .
And last but not least is one of my personal favourites, Love Locket can be split into three baths or you could use it once for an extra special treat. Once you open your heart (get it?!) you will find a smaller heart bath bomb hidden inside. I like how this one has red hearts in and confetti of pink hearts too.
I also got given a sample of the new Cupid’s Love* soap which is brilliant for uplifting you in the mornings your feeling a bit poopy. It contains fresh figs, passion fruit juice and soya yogurt to help nourish and soften the skin.
What Lush products will you be picking up from the Valentine’s collection?
